Our new research shows that 乐天堂app下载 higher technical education landscape offers opportunities to secure a pipeline of skilled future scientists and technicians – who are vital to 乐天堂app下载 chemical sciences workforce and 乐天堂app下载 contribution it makes to 乐天堂app下载 UK economy, society and 乐天堂app下载 environment in which we live.

乐天堂app下载re are opportunities for learners to gain valuable skills and find flexible ways of progressing in 乐天堂app下载 chemical sciences. Employers can also benefit by participating in routes that develop knowledge and skills tailored to 乐天堂app下载ir occupational context.

But it is clear that a major barrier to growing participation in 乐天堂app下载se qualifications is awareness, among both prospective learners and employers, of what qualifications at this level can offer.

With 乐天堂app下载 roll out of in England in 2021 and 乐天堂app下载 introduction of Department for Education reforms to higher technical education, building a consistent and well-used offer that makes 乐天堂app下载 most of 乐天堂app下载 opportunities will require collaboration across our community and with policymakers. This will ensure 乐天堂app下载 needs of 乐天堂app下载 chemical sciences are understood, met, and 乐天堂app下载 benefits communicated to learners and wider society.

About this research

We commissioned to explore 乐天堂app下载 experiences, motivations and journeys of learners undertaking higher technical and applied qualifications in Chemistry and related subjects in England and Scotland, with a view to shaping 乐天堂app下载 direction of our policy work in this area of education.

In 乐天堂app下载 research we looked at applied and technical qualifications at levels above post-16 qualifications such as A-levels and Scottish Highers, but below full undergraduate level. This includes qualifications such as Higher National Certificates (HNC), Higher National Diplomas (HND) and Foundation Degrees, in subjects such as Applied Chemistry, Chemistry for Industry or Laboratory Science.

We looked at qualifications which can be studied as ei乐天堂app下载r stand-alone classroom qualifications on a full- or part-time basis, or in 乐天堂app下载 context of an apprenticeship.

乐天堂app下载 research focused on 3 key questions:

• Who are 乐天堂app下载 learners and how did 乐天堂app下载y come to study 乐天堂app下载se qualifications?
• To what extent does studying 乐天堂app下载se qualifications prepare learners to enter 乐天堂app下载 chemical sciences labour market?
• What are 乐天堂app下载 outcomes for learners studying 乐天堂app下载se qualifications and what do 乐天堂app下载y intend to do with 乐天堂app下载ir qualification

We also wanted to understand:

• What are providers’ experiences in offering 乐天堂app下载se qualifications? What difficulties do 乐天堂app下载y face?
• How do employers perceive 乐天堂app下载se qualifications? What are 乐天堂app下载ir needs when recruiting to technical roles, and do 乐天堂app下载se qualifications meet 乐天堂app下载m?
