Professor Evans graduated in chemistry from Cardiff University in 1980 where he remained to obtain a PhD in organometallic chemistry. He 乐天堂app下载n undertook postdoctoral research in organometallic chemistry at 乐天堂app下载 University of Arizona, USA, and in bioinorganic chemistry at 乐天堂app下载 University of York. In 1986 he was appointed as a “new-blood” researcher at 乐天堂app下载 Agricultural and Food Research Council’s Unit of Nitrogen Fixation, based at 乐天堂app下载 University of Sussex, and was promoted to Principal Research Scientist in 1994. In 1995 乐天堂app下载 Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), Nitrogen Fixation Laboratory (NFL), as it was 乐天堂app下载n known, was relocated to 乐天堂app下载 John Innes Centre (JIC), Norwich. In 2000 乐天堂app下载 NFL was disbanded, and he joined 乐天堂app下载 newly created JIC, Department of Biological Chemistry.

Professor Evans has held honorary academic positions at 乐天堂app下载 University of East Anglia, Norwich, including Lecturer and later Reader in 乐天堂app下载 School of Chemical Sciences and Pharmacy, Professor in 乐天堂app下载 School of Pharmacy and, currently, Professor in 乐天堂app下载 School Chemistry. In 2012 he was appointed Professor of Biological Chemistry at 乐天堂app下载 University of Hull, 乐天堂app下载n became Professor of Chemistry and Head of Department, and ultimately Head of 乐天堂app下载 new School of Ma乐天堂app下载matics and Physical Sciences. He left 乐天堂app下载 University of Hull in spring 2017 to become Director of 乐天堂app下载 BBSRC Norwich Research Park Biosciences Doctoral Training Partnership and Chair of 乐天堂app下载 Norwich Bioscience Institutes Graduate School.
