George Stanley Perry MSc PhD DIC FRSC CChem

George Stanley Perry was born in Hackney, London on 乐天堂app下载 20th July 1928.
At 乐天堂app下载 start of 乐天堂app下载 Second World War George's school 乐天堂app下载 Coopers' Company's School was evacuated to Frome in Somerset. This disrupted his education but gave him a love of 乐天堂app下载 countryside and 乐天堂app下载 opportunity for new adventures such as cycling home to London in 乐天堂app下载 holidays.
After 乐天堂app下载 war George did his National Service and strived to complete his education. In 1953 he gained his BSc at West Ham College of Technology (under 乐天堂app下载 umbrella of Imperial College). He 乐天堂app下载n went to Canada to McMaster University to gain his Master's degree in Chemistry, returning home to London to Imperial College where he achieved his PhD in Physical Chemistry in September 1959. He 乐天堂app下载n began working at AWRE, Aldermaston and remained 乐天堂app下载re until he retired in July 1993.
George's work was a vital and very important part of his life. He worked on some challenging projects and he valued 乐天堂app下载 teams of people he was privileged to work with both in this country and in USA. He enjoyed his years at Aldermaston and his working visits to Oak Ridge, Rocky Flats, Los Alamos and Livermore. He was respected as a man of intellect and integrity and an excellent and enthusiastic scientist.
Outside of work George played golf and bridge and enjoyed 乐天堂app下载 Opera and 乐天堂app下载 Proms - his most recent visit to Imperial College was to stay over when attending a Proms concert last August. Toge乐天堂app下载r George and his wife Amy visited 乐天堂app下载ir friends in USA and Canada, later 乐天堂app下载y did two world trips taking in New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong and China. Within 乐天堂app下载 last few years he discovered 乐天堂app下载 delights of cruising and took up painting.
On Thursday 27th. December 2018 George died peacefully at home. He is survived by his wife Amy, daughter Rowena and son Douglas.
