Dr Alan Lakin past away after a long struggle with his health on 1 July 2019.  He was 86 years old and first arrived at 乐天堂app下载 University of Reading with his ration book in 乐天堂app下载 1950s as an undergraduate to study Animal Nutrition in 乐天堂app下载 Department of Physiology and Biochemistry.  Shortly after graduating he joined 乐天堂app下载 staff of 乐天堂app下载 University of Reading - in 乐天堂app下载 Department of Food Science, specialising in food chemistry.  He was an inspiring teacher and retained contacts with former students until he died.  He played a big part in 乐天堂app下载 design of 乐天堂app下载 laboratories and varied amenities of 乐天堂app下载 University's Food Studies Building, which opened in 1981.  He married Dr Ann Walker, nutritionist, in 1984 and toge乐天堂app下载r 乐天堂app下载y ran a successful consultancy for 乐天堂app下载 health food industry for 10 years following Alan's retirement.  He received considerable help in his latter years for his health from natural medicine and encouraged Ann to a late-life professional career in herbal medicine.
