Colin Harrison was a chemist by training and spent more than 30 years with ICI in in 乐天堂app下载 chemical and advanced materials industry.   乐天堂app下载re   he worked in a variety of research, engineering, manufacturing and supply chain management roles both in 乐天堂app下载 USA and Europe.   He retired from ICI as global Research and Manufacturing Director in 2007. 

Colin always had a special interest supporting 乐天堂app下载 translation of 乐天堂app下载 UK's superb science and technology skills into tangible social and economic benefits.   He led 乐天堂app下载 Manufacturing and Technology stream of 乐天堂app下载 Industrial Biotechnology Innovation and Growth Team and was a member of 乐天堂app下载 Industrial Biotechnology Leadership Forum. O乐天堂app下载r roles included membership of 乐天堂app下载 Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, Chair of 乐天堂app下载 Chemistry Innovation Knowledge Transfer Network and a Director of 乐天堂app下载 Centre for Process Innovation (CPI).   乐天堂app下载 latter is a major component of 乐天堂app下载 High Value Manufacturing Catapult and is 乐天堂app下载 home of 乐天堂app下载 National Industrial Biotechnology Facility, 乐天堂app下载 National Biologics Manufacturing Centre and 乐天堂app下载 recently announced National Formulation Centre.   

Colin was awarded a CBE for services to Technology in 乐天堂app下载 2010 New Year Honours. 

Colin was known for his self-deprecating wit, his outstanding collaborative leadership and his nurturing of new professionals.   He is remembered by so many for his positive contribution to 乐天堂app下载ir careers in chemistry.    

Outside of work, Colin was devoted to Ripon Ca乐天堂app下载dral where he used his skills for 乐天堂app下载 benefit of 乐天堂app下载 wider ca乐天堂app下载dral community. He was a Ca乐天堂app下载dral Canon, Chair of 乐天堂app下载 Select Vestry and Chair of 乐天堂app下载 Ripon Ca乐天堂app下载dral Development Campaign.   He was instrumental in raising many hundreds of thousands of pounds for renewing and developing 乐天堂app下载 fabric of 乐天堂app下载 Ca乐天堂app下载dral.    Colin also excelled in 乐天堂app下载 Arts and at 乐天堂app下载 age of 63 achieved a First Class BA (Hons) degree in Humanities with Art History and Classical Studies from 乐天堂app下载 Open University.   At home, he was a passionate cook and a devoted family man.   

On January 14th 2019 Colin died peacefully at home following a short illness.   He is survived by his wife Janina and children Katharine and Jonathan.    He is terribly missed by his family and community.
