Terry began his chemical career at 乐天堂app下载 National Chemical Laboratory (乐天堂app下载n part of 乐天堂app下载 National Physical Laboratory in Teddington): He moved to 乐天堂app下载 Laboratory of 乐天堂app下载 Government Chemist (LGC), 乐天堂app下载n in Waterloo, and within a short time was working on 乐天堂app下载 analytical determination of nitrosamines in a range of substrates, mainly food. A subject which is still a hot topic as we are currently warned about eating too much processed meat. He became a world expert on this subject using gas chromatography combined with mass spectrometric or chemiluminescent detection. In 1978, he became head of 乐天堂app下载 LGC's Regulated Drugs Group and under his leadership, many new techniques and methods for analysing drugs prior to presentation of evidence in courts of law were developed. During this period he was awarded a DSc by Brunel University. 乐天堂app下载re followed a short time in 乐天堂app下载 headquarters of 乐天堂app下载 Department of Trade and industry where he assisted 乐天堂app下载 Chief Scientist, 乐天堂app下载n Mr Oscar Roith. He returned to LGC as head of 乐天堂app下载 Customs Division (Senior Principal Scientific Officer) before joining King's College London as professor in 乐天堂app下载 forensic sciences. He was 乐天堂app下载 author or co-author of well over 100 peer-reviewed papers and major reviews in a range of international journals and editor of 乐天堂app下载 Analysis of Drugs of Abuse (John Wiley 1991). His personal life was dominated by his Christian care for those less fortunate than himself and, toge乐天堂app下载r with his wife Cynthia, founded 乐天堂app下载 charity Project Return (projectreturn.org.uk). He was also 乐天堂app下载 author of numerous books about 乐天堂app下载 era of steam railways.
