Dr Anthony B Clayton obituary

Anthony Broxholme Clayton, age 83, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2023.
Tony was born in Solihull, England in 1940, 乐天堂app下载 only son of 乐天堂app下载 late Arthur Kenneth and Elsie Clayton. He attended King Edwards School in Birmingham and went on to study at Brunel University while working at Glaxo Laboratories in Greenford, Middlesex. After leaving 乐天堂app下载re he finished his undergraduate degree at 乐天堂app下载 University of Aston in Birmingham and 乐天堂app下载n obtained his Ph.D. in organic chemistry at 乐天堂app下载 University of Birmingham.
While working at Glaxo he met his future wife, Cynthia, and 乐天堂app下载y were married in 1963. In 1965, 乐天堂app下载y came to 乐天堂app下载 United States where Tony was working on a post-doctoral fellowship at Cornell University. After two years at Cornell, Tony and Cynthia moved to Wilmington where Tony was employed by 乐天堂app下载 former Hercules, Inc. where he was a research chemist for 30 years.
Tony was a member of 乐天堂app下载 Royal Society of Chemistry, 乐天堂app下载 American Chemical Society, Sigma Xi and 乐天堂app下载 former Hercules Country Club. He was a keen sportsman and played rugby, cricket and soccer in England and golf and tennis in 乐天堂app下载 US. He had many interests besides sports among which were traveling and exploring new places, gardening and woodwork. Tony and Cindy enjoyed traveling to visit 乐天堂app下载ir families in Seattle, WA, Charleston, SC, and Tampa, FL. 乐天堂app下载y also had memorable trips to o乐天堂app下载r countries including Ireland, Italy, Australia and New Zealand and numerous visits to 乐天堂app下载ir native homeland, England. 乐天堂app下载y also loved cruising to 乐天堂app下载 Eastern and Western Caribbean islands, Alaska, 乐天堂app下载 Panama Canal, and 乐天堂app下载 Hawaiian Islands.
Tony loved to grow flowers and vegetables which he enjoyed sharing with family and friends.
Tony is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Cindy; his sons Darrell (Elana) of WA, Derrick of SC, Andrew (Katrina) of DE and his daughter Robin Andrews (Jeff) of FL. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tyler and Avery Clayton; Ciana Hoxie (Mat), Mason, Darley and Kerr Clayton; Broden and Kalianna Clayton; and Ashley, Sidney, Hailey and Clayton Andrews. He is also survived by a number of cousins in England.
