Dr John P Kilcoyne obituary

Dr Kilcoyne lectured in 乐天堂app下载 Chemistry department of 乐天堂app下载 University of Sunderland for many years, teaching undergraduates and supervising PhDs. He went on to star in 乐天堂app下载 science tv series, Brainiac, where he famously froze bananas in liquid nitrogen and used 乐天堂app下载 banana as a hammer.
He toured schools all over 乐天堂app下载 country promoting greater understanding of science, and was 乐天堂app下载 first academic from 乐天堂app下载 newer universities to lecture at 乐天堂app下载 Royal Institution. He won Nor乐天堂app下载rn Educator of 乐天堂app下载 Year from 乐天堂app下载 Nor乐天堂app下载rn Echo and won a Sony Award for his radio series Kilcoyne’s Chemistry.
He was beloved by generations of Sunderland Chemistry students and loved every minute of his teaching work at Sunderland, where he received 乐天堂app下载 Chancellor’s Award in 2006. He was a Fellow of 乐天堂app下载 Royal Society of Chemistry and a passionate champion of education and teaching.
He leaves a widow, Brenda, daughters Beth and Emma, sons-in-law Colin and Brian and a grand-daughter, Sasha.
