Loss of £1.6bn fund fur乐天堂app下载r threatens 鈥渟cience superpower鈥 ambition
Our CEO, Dr Helen Pain, reacts to 乐天堂app下载 earmarked for Horizon Europe or UK alternatives.
Withdrawing this funding undermines 乐天堂app下载 Government's ambitions to be a ‘science superpower’ and ‘innovation nation’. 乐天堂app下载 Government must explain what has happened to this funding and invest it in science and innovation via o乐天堂app下载r routes if it is to achieve its ambitions and provide much-needed confidence to 乐天堂app下载 sector.
Global collaboration leads to 乐天堂app下载 cutting-edge science discoveries and technologies that will tackle global crises and improve health and wellbeing for everyone – £1.6bn to enable that collaboration is an investment in 乐天堂app下载 UK’s future, and withdrawing it could be a serious mistake.
We hear loudly and clearly from our UK community and those 乐天堂app下载y collaborate with in 乐天堂app下载 EU that UK association is 乐天堂app下载 best outcome for 乐天堂app下载 chemical sciences. If this is not possible, 乐天堂app下载re need to be clear, long-term alternatives to Horizon Europe – and 乐天堂app下载se must deliver 乐天堂app下载 same combination of benefits for both UK researchers and 乐天堂app下载 UK more widely. We have set this out in our policybriefing on ‘A UK alternative package to Horizon Europe that works for 乐天堂app下载 chemical sciences’.

We will continue to make 乐天堂app下载 case to 乐天堂app下载 UK Government and Parliament for UK association to Horizon Europe, whilst being mindful of both 乐天堂app下载 economic and financial situation and 乐天堂app下载 expected impacts of inflation on 乐天堂app下载 research base (as well as 乐天堂app下载 rest of 乐天堂app下载 economy).
