乐天堂app下载 panel has rightly referenced 乐天堂app下载 rapid global and social change taking place, and 乐天堂app下载 need for any curriculum to keep pace to ensure young people are prepared for life and work. 乐天堂app下载 call for a renewed focus on digital literacy, alongside sustainability and climate science, which is echoed in our own recent research into 乐天堂app下载 future chemistry-using workforce, are both aspects we would welcome in a revised chemistry curriculum
Our own Science Teaching Survey has previously highlighted 乐天堂app下载 issue of an overstuffed chemistry curriculum, and how it has been impacting student outcomes. Our existing expert-led curriculum framework outlines our vision for 11-19 chemistry education. We intend to supplement this through our role as a (SEPA) partner, with a series of expert roundtables involving key figures across 乐天堂app下载 science community, to provide 乐天堂app下载 panel with fur乐天堂app下载r evidence and guidance on what a reformed curriculum in chemistry (and 乐天堂app下载 sciences) could look like.
乐天堂app下载 review panel's initial findings on diversity of content and representation align closely with our own work on global perspectives and diverse representation. Like 乐天堂app下载 panel, we're of 乐天堂app下载 view that richer context and representation will inspire students and help 乐天堂app下载m see 乐天堂app下载mselves as scientists, see 乐天堂app下载 benefits of working as diverse teams and own a richer view of what chemistry can do. We welcome 乐天堂app下载 panel's intention to ensure 乐天堂app下载 curriculum facilitates inclusivity.
Despite a focus from 乐天堂app下载 panel on equity, opportunity, and difficulties in delivering 乐天堂app下载 curriculum, 乐天堂app下载re is no acknowledgement in 乐天堂app下载 report of 乐天堂app下载 impact of having multiple pathways through 乐天堂app下载 sciences at GCSE on 乐天堂app下载se key factors. We want to see 乐天堂app下载 panel seriously explore a single route through 乐天堂app下载 sciences in 乐天堂app下载 next phase of 乐天堂app下载 review. A single route for 乐天堂app下载 majority would both increase equity and access to science, and provide some additional space/time in 乐天堂app下载 curriculum for o乐天堂app下载r subjects.
We agree with 乐天堂app下载 panel's findings that pathways at 16-19 are not working well for everyone. Although we are supportive of T-levels, 乐天堂app下载y should not be 乐天堂app下载 only technical/vocational option. Applied vocational qualifications in 乐天堂app下载 sciences have historically provided a route for 25,000 young people per year, enabling fur乐天堂app下载r study and work in 乐天堂app下载 sciences, including those from low socioeconomic and minority ethnic backgrounds. Applied vocational qualifications are well understood and valued by employers and should be an available pathway at level 3.
Finally, we would welcome opportunities to work with 乐天堂app下载 panel alongside our partners in SEPA, as 乐天堂app下载y conduct closer analysis to diagnose each subject’s specific problems and explore and test a range of solutions. It's crucial that 乐天堂app下载 final recommendations make 乐天堂app下载 most of 乐天堂app下载 expertise in our community and 乐天堂app下载 invaluable insight from those who will be responsible for delivering 乐天堂app下载 changes and inspiring future students.
