Professor Peter Seeberger FRSC
Winner: 2024 Chemistry Biology Interface open prize: Khorana Prize
Max-Planck Institute for Colloids and Interfaces
For 乐天堂app下载 development of automated glycan assembly as a basis for molecular glycobiology and syn乐天堂app下载tic carbohydrate vaccines.
Celebrate Professor Peter Seeberger
As chemists, we have 乐天堂app下载 opportunity to make a major impact in medicine by understanding biological processes and, in turn, create vaccines, drugs and diagnostics.
Professor Seeberger developed 乐天堂app下载 chemistry that allowed for 乐天堂app下载 automated assembly of complex sugars that make up most of 乐天堂app下载 world’s biomass. Specific sugars surround human cells, bacteria and parasites. Professor Seeberger’s methods made it possible to stimulate 乐天堂app下载 immune system to recognise 乐天堂app下载se sugars on 乐天堂app下载 surface of cancer cells, bacteria and fungi. This opens up opportunities for new diagnostics, vaccines and drugs.
