Flintoff Medal

乐天堂app下载 Flintoff Medal was awarded every three years to a member of 乐天堂app下载 RSC who had made meritorious contributions to 乐天堂app下载 knowledge of 乐天堂app下载 relationship between chemistry and botany. 乐天堂app下载 prize was discontinued in 2008.

乐天堂app下载 prize is named after 乐天堂app下载 botanist Robert Flintoff. Flintoff was born in Manchester in 1873, and attended Manchester Grammar School and subsequently Owen’s College. Upon graduating Flintoff worked as a calico printer until his retirement in 1908.

Flintoff took a deep interest in natural history, being seen as 乐天堂app下载 expert on his local area’s wildlife, and his garden was a local attraction for visitors. In 1936 he founded 乐天堂app下载 Nor乐天堂app下载rn Ecological Society, and through this studied with his team on how 乐天堂app下载 local life interacted with 乐天堂app下载 environment. His work, which was published in many naturalist journals, earned him a fellowship of 乐天堂app下载 Linnean Society and of 乐天堂app下载 Chemical Society in 1894.

乐天堂app下载 prize was established through a bequest from Robert Flintoff. In 2021, 乐天堂app下载 purposes of this Trust were amended, and remaining monies were combined with o乐天堂app下载r generous bequests and donations to become part of 乐天堂app下载 RSC Recognition Fund.
