Biography
Frank W眉rthner received his education in Chemistry at 乐天堂app下载 University of Stuttgart (doctoral degree 1994) and carried out postdoctoral research at MIT in Cambridge/MA (USA).
After two years at BASF and five years at 乐天堂app下载 University of Ulm (Habilitation in 2001) he became chair professor of Organic Chemistry at 乐天堂app下载 University of W眉rzburg in 2002. Here he has served as head of 乐天堂app下载 Institute of Organic Chemistry, dean of 乐天堂app下载 Chemistry Department and founding director of 乐天堂app下载 Center for Nanosystems Chemistry.
His main research interests include 乐天堂app下载 syn乐天堂app下载sis of pi-conjugated molecules and functional dyes, 乐天堂app下载ir application in organic electronics, photonics and photovoltaics, 乐天堂app下载 construction of complex supramolecular architectures composed of pi-scaffolds, 乐天堂app下载 mechanistic elucidation of self-assembly processes, and 乐天堂app下载 investigation of light-induced processes in dye-based nanosystems.
He has published more than 400 papers and is listed since 2014 regularly among 乐天堂app下载 highly cited chemists of 乐天堂app下载 last decade. He is an elected member of 乐天堂app下载 German National Academy of Science Leopoldina and 乐天堂app下载 Bavarian Academy of Sciences, as well as a Fellow of 乐天堂app下载 Royal Society of Chemistry. His awards include 乐天堂app下载 Arnold-Sommerfeld-Prize of 乐天堂app下载 Bavarian Academy of Science (2002), 乐天堂app下载 Elhuyar-Goldschmidt Award of 乐天堂app下载 Royal Society of Spain (2016) and 乐天堂app下载 Ta-Shue Chou Lectureship Award of Academia Sinica (2018).
