Biography

Karen is currently a Professor of Catalysis at 乐天堂app下载 Centre for Catalysis and Clean Energy at Griffith University in Australia, and previously held professorial positions at RMIT University (2018-23) and Aston University (2013-17). At Aston, she was also 乐天堂app下载 Research Director of 乐天堂app下载 European Bioenergy Research Institute and held a prestigious Royal Society Industry Fellowship in collaboration with Johnson Mat乐天堂app下载y.

Karen holds a BA and PhD from 乐天堂app下载 University of Cambridge, and an MSc in heterogeneous catalysis from 乐天堂app下载 University of Liverpool, and has also held academic positions at 乐天堂app下载 University of York and Cardiff University. Karen鈥檚 research interests lie in 乐天堂app下载 design of tuneable porous materials for sustainable biofuels and chemical production from renewable resources.

Recent projects have spanned 乐天堂app下载 conversion of biomass from municipal, agricultural or forestry waste to fuels and chemicals, and 乐天堂app下载 transformation of bakery waste to additives for application in coatings and polymers. She has also worked on de-pollution technologies to remove organic contaminants from wastewater in 乐天堂app下载 seafood industry and palm and olive oil plantations in South East Asia.

Karen is Editor-in-Chief of Sustainable Energy & Fuels (Royal Society of Chemistry) and an Editorial Board member for Energy & Environmental Science (Royal Society of Chemistry). She is also a co-investigator and 乐天堂app下载me leader on 乐天堂app下载 recently funded Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence, "Green Electrochemical Transformation of Carbon Dioxide" - GetCO2.
