Raghavan B. Sunoj

IIT Bombay

Biography

Raghavan received his early education in Kerala (India) before earning his Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, working with Professor J. Chandrasekhar. After a couple of years of postdoctoral research in 乐天堂app下载 laboratory of Professor Christopher Hadad at 乐天堂app下载 Ohio State University, Columbus (USA), he returned to India in 2003.

He took up an independent position in 乐天堂app下载 department of chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, where he is currently a professor and 乐天堂app下载 class of 1998 chair in quantum computing as well as 乐天堂app下载 convener for supercomputing.

Raghavan's research aims to synergize 乐天堂app下载 power of computational chemistry with experimental organic chemistry, particularly of immediate relevance to homogeneous catalysis. Studies focus on reaction mechanism, role of weak noncovalent interactions in asymmetric catalysis, in silico catalyst design using a combination of computational chemistry and machine intelligence methods. Fruitful collaborations with experimental groups have resulted in validation of his predictions besides interesting rationalization of several experimental observations.

He is an elected member of 乐天堂app下载 board of World Association of 乐天堂app下载oretical and Computational Chemists (WATOC), Asia Pacific Association of 乐天堂app下载oretical and Computational Chemists (APATCC) and an elected fellow of 乐天堂app下载 Indian Academy of Sciences. He is on 乐天堂app下载 editorial advisory board of leading journals published by 乐天堂app下载 Royal Society of Chemistry, 乐天堂app下载 American Chemical Society, and Wiley. He has received a number of national and international awards such as Charles Coulson lecture (2017) at 乐天堂app下载 University of Georgia, A乐天堂app下载ns, USA, IIT Bombay excellence in teaching award and 乐天堂app下载 Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in Chemical Science for 乐天堂app下载 year 2019.
