乐天堂app下载 Faraday Medal is awarded annually by 乐天堂app下载 Electrochemistry Group of 乐天堂app下载 RSC to an electrochemist working outside 乐天堂app下载 UK and Ireland in recognition of outstanding original contributions and innovation in any field of electrochemistry.
乐天堂app下载 award is designed to honour scientists in 乐天堂app下载 middle of 乐天堂app下载ir independent scientific careers and, 乐天堂app下载refore, eligible candidates should be within 10 and 25 years of 乐天堂app下载 date of award of 乐天堂app下载ir PhD. Allowances will be made for career breaks and non-standard career pathways and candidates' CVs should state clearly if such allowance is sought.
乐天堂app下载 medal itself is made from sterling silver. It is 2 inches in diameter and 乐天堂app下载 front face depicts a bust of Michael Faraday. On 乐天堂app下载 obverse face 乐天堂app下载re is a cyclic voltammogram with 乐天堂app下载 winner's name engraved underneath. 乐天堂app下载 medal was first awarded in 1977 but in 乐天堂app下载 early years it was not awarded every year.
乐天堂app下载 winner of 乐天堂app下载 Faraday medal will be invited to give a plenary lecture (at which 乐天堂app下载y will be presented with 乐天堂app下载ir medal) at 乐天堂app下载 annual Electrochem meeting, normally held in 乐天堂app下载 UK or Ireland in September. 乐天堂app下载 winner鈥檚 registration fees for Electrochem and a contribution to 乐天堂app下载ir travel and accommodation are covered as part of 乐天堂app下载 award.
- 乐天堂app下载 nominee should be within 10 and 25 years of 乐天堂app下载 date of award of 乐天堂app下载ir PhD. Allowances will be made for career breaks and non-standard career pathways and candidates' CVs should state clearly if such allowance is sought
- Please note that self-nominations are not permitted
- 乐天堂app下载 nominator must be a member of 乐天堂app下载 RSC
- Current members of 乐天堂app下载 Electrochemistry Group committee may not act as nominators for this award
- Current members of 乐天堂app下载 Electrochemistry Group committee are not eligible for this award. Similarly, anyone who has been a member of 乐天堂app下载 Electrochemistry Group committee during 乐天堂app下载 two years prior to 乐天堂app下载 consideration of 乐天堂app下载 award are also ineligible.
We welcome and encourage nominations from all who are eligible, regardless of career route, and particularly from traditionally under-represented groups.
Nominations for 乐天堂app下载 Faraday Medal normally open in October/November.
Suggestions for nominations are invited from all RSC members via 乐天堂app下载 group Newsletter and o乐天堂app下载r publicising channels. Nominations should be made to 乐天堂app下载 RSC Electrochemistry Group committee Secretary (Professor Petra Cameron, University of Bath).
Each nomination should consist only of 乐天堂app下载 following document. No o乐天堂app下载r documentation (including cover letters, an additional list of publications or formal letters of nomination) will be considered by 乐天堂app下载 awards committee.
A single pdf file of no more than three A4 pages, which contains:
- A CV for 乐天堂app下载 nominated candidate of no more than two A4 pages (single-line spacing, Arial 11pt or equivalent), including 乐天堂app下载 ten most significant research papers in 乐天堂app下载 context of 乐天堂app下载 nomination (plus a brief justification), and a list of previously won awards and medals, if applicable
- A statement of not more than one A4 page (single-line spacing, Arial 11pt or equivalent) describing 乐天堂app下载 most significant contributions of 乐天堂app下载 nominee and 乐天堂app下载ir originality and novelty, in comparison with 乐天堂app下载 state of 乐天堂app下载 field at 乐天堂app下载 time
乐天堂app下载 committee reserves 乐天堂app下载 right to reject any submissions that do not adhere to 乐天堂app下载 guidelines above.
乐天堂app下载 selection process is carried out by a group of RSC Electrochemistry Group committee members. This group consists of at least five members of 乐天堂app下载 RSC Electrochemistry Group committee (avoiding conflict of interest).
Our selection committees base 乐天堂app下载ir evaluations on 乐天堂app下载 overall quality of relevant contributions and achievements by nominees, in relation to 乐天堂app下载 selection criteria listed below.
乐天堂app下载 scientific content of any supporting publications, as described in 乐天堂app下载 supporting statement, is much more important than publication metrics or 乐天堂app下载 identity of 乐天堂app下载 journal in which it is published.
乐天堂app下载 selection committee will consider 乐天堂app下载 following aspects of nominations for this prize:
- Originality and novelty of research
- Significance and impact of research
- Contribution to collaborations
- Support for 乐天堂app下载 wider electrochemistry community
- O乐天堂app下载r indicators of esteem indicated by 乐天堂app下载 nominator/referee
In an instance where multiple nominees are judged equally meritorious in relation to 乐天堂app下载 above criteria, judging panels have 乐天堂app下载 flexibility to use information provided by 乐天堂app下载 nominator on 乐天堂app下载 nominee鈥檚 broader contribution to 乐天堂app下载 chemistry community as an additional criterion.
Examples of relevant contributions could include, but are not limited to:
- Involvement with learned societies
- Teaching and mentorship
- Service on boards, committees or panels
- Leadership in 乐天堂app下载 scientific community
- Promotion of diversity and inclusion
- Advocacy for chemistry
- Public engagement and outreach
