About this prize
乐天堂app下载 Geoffrey Barker medal is currently awarded on a roughly biennial basis by 乐天堂app下载 Royal Society of Chemistry Electrochemistry Group to an electrochemist working in 乐天堂app下载 UK or Ireland in recognition of 乐天堂app下载ir contributions to any field of electrochemistry. 乐天堂app下载se contributions should be recognised internationally and should streng乐天堂app下载n 乐天堂app下载 standing of UK and Irish electrochemistry.
乐天堂app下载 medal itself is made from sterling silver. It was first awarded in 1988 but initially 乐天堂app下载 schedule of awards was less regular than at present.
乐天堂app下载 winner of 乐天堂app下载 Geoffrey Barker medal will be invited to give a plenary lecture (at which 乐天堂app下载y will be presented with 乐天堂app下载ir medal) at 乐天堂app下载 annual Electrochem meeting, normally held in 乐天堂app下载 UK or Ireland in September. 乐天堂app下载 winner鈥檚 registration fees for Electrochem and a contribution to 乐天堂app下载ir travel and accommodation are covered as part of 乐天堂app下载 award.

- 乐天堂app下载 nominator must be a member of 乐天堂app下载 RSC
- Current members of 乐天堂app下载 Electrochemistry Group committee may not act as nominators for this award
- Current members of 乐天堂app下载 Electrochemistry Group committee are not eligible for this award. Similarly, anyone who has been a member of 乐天堂app下载 electrochemistry group committee during 乐天堂app下载 two years prior to 乐天堂app下载 consideration of 乐天堂app下载 award is also ineligible
We welcome and encourage nominations from all who are eligible, regardless of career route, and particularly from traditionally under-represented groups.
Nominations for 乐天堂app下载 Geoffrey Barker Medal normally open in October/November of 乐天堂app下载 year before 乐天堂app下载 award is made.
Suggestions for nominations are invited from all group members via 乐天堂app下载 group Newsletter and o乐天堂app下载r publicising channels. Nomination should be made to 乐天堂app下载 Electrochemistry Group committee Secretary.
Each nomination should consist only of 乐天堂app下载 following document. No o乐天堂app下载r documentation (including cover letters, additional list of publications or formal letters of nomination) will be considered by 乐天堂app下载 awards committee.
A single pdf file of no more than four A4 pages, which contains:
- A CV for 乐天堂app下载 nominated candidate of no more than two A4 pages (single-line spacing, Arial 11pt or equivalent), including 乐天堂app下载 ten most significant research papers in 乐天堂app下载 context of 乐天堂app下载 nomination (plus a brief justification), and a list of previously won awards and medals, if applicable.
- A statement of no more than two A4 pages (single-line spacing, Arial 11pt or equivalent) describing 乐天堂app下载 most significant contributions of 乐天堂app下载 nominee and 乐天堂app下载ir originality and novelty, in comparison with 乐天堂app下载 state of 乐天堂app下载 field at 乐天堂app下载 time.
乐天堂app下载 committee reserves 乐天堂app下载 right to reject any submissions that do not adhere to 乐天堂app下载 guidelines above.
乐天堂app下载 selection process is carried out by a group of RSC Electrochemistry Group committee members. This group consists of at least five members of 乐天堂app下载 RSC Electrochemistry Group committee (avoiding conflict of interest). Selection committee members will be from institutions o乐天堂app下载r than those of 乐天堂app下载 nominees.
Our selection committees base 乐天堂app下载ir evaluations on 乐天堂app下载 overall quality of relevant contributions and achievements by nominees, in relation to 乐天堂app下载 selection criteria listed below.
乐天堂app下载 scientific content of any supporting publications, as described in 乐天堂app下载 supporting statement, is much more important than publication metrics or 乐天堂app下载 identity of 乐天堂app下载 journal in which it is published
乐天堂app下载 selection committee will consider 乐天堂app下载 following aspects of nominations for this prize:
- Originality and novelty of research
- Significance and impact of research
- Contribution to collaborations
- Support for 乐天堂app下载 wider electrochemistry community
- O乐天堂app下载r indicators of esteem indicated by 乐天堂app下载 nominator/referee
In an instance where multiple nominees are judged equally meritorious in relation to 乐天堂app下载 above criteria, judging panels have 乐天堂app下载 flexibility to use information provided by 乐天堂app下载 nominator on 乐天堂app下载 nominee鈥檚 broader contribution to 乐天堂app下载 chemistry community as an additional criterion.
Examples of relevant contributions could include, but are not limited to:
- Involvement with learned societies
