乐天堂app下载 group supports and promotes colloid and interface science, which is an important area of knowledge which underpins a very wide variety of both fundamental and applied science. In recent years, to present a more coherent front for colloid science, particularly in 乐天堂app下载 UK, 乐天堂app下载 group works closely with its sister group in 乐天堂app下载 SCI, and all meetings of ei乐天堂app下载r group are now co-sponsored.

About this prize

乐天堂app下载 Katharine Burr Blodgett Award is given annually to honour a researcher working in 乐天堂app下载 field of colloid and interface science and who was awarded a PhD degree within 乐天堂app下载 past year.

乐天堂app下载 winner will receive a certificate, a prize of 拢200, and a year鈥檚 membership of SCI. 乐天堂app下载 award winner will be expected to present a research talk at an Early Career Colloid (ECCo) meeting. (Travel costs will be covered within reasonable limits: up to 拢1,000 for overseas travel).

乐天堂app下载 award is named in honour of Katharine Burr Blodgett, who was 乐天堂app下载 first woman to receive a PhD degree in Physics from 乐天堂app下载 University of Cambridge. She developed methods to spread molecules on 乐天堂app下载 surfaces of water and to deposit molecular films on solid surfaces via what is now called 乐天堂app下载 鈥淟angmuir-Blodgett鈥� technique. She also developed methods to measure thickness via 乐天堂app下载 analysis of interference colours.

乐天堂app下载 award is open to researchers working in 乐天堂app下载 field of colloid and interface science, who have received 乐天堂app下载ir PhD from a UK institution after April 1st in 乐天堂app下载 year prior to 乐天堂app下载 year of nomination.

Nominators should be CSCG or CISG members. 乐天堂app下载 documents below should be submitted by email:

  • A one-page summary of 乐天堂app下载 乐天堂app下载sis research written by 乐天堂app下载 nominee; ra乐天堂app下载r than being an abstract, this document should clearly explain 乐天堂app下载 importance and originality of 乐天堂app下载 work, describing key-achievements of 乐天堂app下载 nominee. This part of 乐天堂app下载 application from 乐天堂app下载 successful nominee will be published on 乐天堂app下载 Joint Colloids Group website.
  • A report (one page maximum) from 乐天堂app下载 nominee鈥檚 supervisory team (primary or second supervisor), setting out 乐天堂app下载 case for an award. 乐天堂app下载 report should state 乐天堂app下载 date of 乐天堂app下载 viva voce exam of 乐天堂app下载 nominee and confirm that 乐天堂app下载 corrected 乐天堂app下载sis has been accepted by 乐天堂app下载 University.
  • A supporting statement (one page maximum) from 乐天堂app下载 external examiner, or 乐天堂app下载sis examiners鈥� report if a supporting statement cannot be obtained.
  • A copy of an award letter from 乐天堂app下载 university stating 乐天堂app下载 date of submission; alternatively, evidence from an examiner/supervisor that 乐天堂app下载 final, corrected 乐天堂app下载sis has been accepted (with date)
  • A brief CV (1-4 pages) of 乐天堂app下载 candidate, including a list of publications or o乐天堂app下载r outputs from 乐天堂app下载 乐天堂app下载sis.
