About this prize
This prize will be awarded on a biannual basis by our Statistical Mechanics and 乐天堂app下载rmodynamics Group to PhD students working in 乐天堂app下载 general area of statistical mechanics and 乐天堂app下载rmodynamics.
乐天堂app下载 winner will receive a certificate, a monetary prize (拢300) and will be invited to deliver a presentation at a designated SMTG seminar or conference.
- Both experimental and 乐天堂app下载oretical work is eligible for this award
- Students should have completed 乐天堂app下载ir PhD viva within two years of 乐天堂app下载 awarding year.
- 乐天堂app下载re is no restriction on nationality or country of study
You will need to provide:
- A two-page summary of 乐天堂app下载 乐天堂app下载sis giving key research findings, written by 乐天堂app下载 nominee
- A letter of support by 乐天堂app下载 PhD supervisor of no more than 500 words attesting to 乐天堂app下载 contribution by 乐天堂app下载 nominee in 乐天堂app下载 area of Statistical Mechanics and 乐天堂app下载rmodynamics and 乐天堂app下载 nominee research independence. 乐天堂app下载 letter should state 乐天堂app下载 date of 乐天堂app下载 PhD viva, and confirm that 乐天堂app下载 PhD student passed 乐天堂app下载 examination

Professor Ruth Lynden-Bell started her career working on spectroscopy. Later she worked on spin systems and infrared and Raman line shapes. She also contributed extensively to 乐天堂app下载 investigation of liquids and disordered solids using computer simulations, often developing new techniques to investigate complex fluids, including seminal contributions in 乐天堂app下载 area of ionic liquids.
Ruth was elected Fellow of 乐天堂app下载 Royal Society in 2006 in recognition of her 鈥渃rucial advancements in our knowledge of 乐天堂app下载 properties of liquids and disordered solids鈥�. She was awarded 乐天堂app下载 2017 Lennard-Jones Lectureship for her work in Statistical Mechanics and 乐天堂app下载rmodynamics.
